Cogitare

The Cogitare is the most dangerous tree in all the forest. It looks like an ordinary roanoak tree, and perhaps it was at one point, but somewhere along the line it developed the capacity to read minds.  Many lost travelers stumble upon it in the forest, though by now warning sides circle the entire area stating:

WARNING: COGITARE TREE IN VICINITY. TURN BACK NOW.

The Cogitare has a way of luring victims closer if within sight distance. It gets inside your head and beckons you over with false promises. And of course, you oblige, because how often does a tree talk to you?  The Cogitare guides your thoughts and asks you questions. Sometimes you will sit there for hours or days. When it has finished reading your mind, it tells you to leave. You walk away confused because not only does it read your mind, it takes your thoughts.  Memories, experiences, even languages have been forgotten after meeting the Cogitare.  It has been incredibly difficult to study the tree because no one seems to be immune to its powers.  Many have questioned the purpose of the Cogitare.  What is it doing with our thoughts?  Why does it need them?  The tree has shown no ability to grow at a faster rate or mobilize like other roanaoke trees, but perhaps it is simply biding its time…
